Introduction

672 Act

On 19 September 2011, the signing of the Concession Agreement for Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Management was held in Putrajaya. The event was attended by YAB Tan Sri Dato 'Muhyiddin Bin Mohd Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.

This event is a historic day for waste management systems that are more green and efficient. Through this Concession Agreement, solid waste management and public cleansing will be privatized. Companies that are responsible for these services is Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd., SWM Environment Sdn. Bhd., And Environment Idaman Sdn. Bhd. The contract will be valid for 22 years, in which, each of the companies involved must meet stringent KPIs. Failure to do so will result in heavy fines.

In addition to the 672 Act collection system will be introduced in the near future. These include bi-weekly collection of kitchen, bulk waste collection, farm or estate, as well as the collection also recycle items once a week. With the existence of such a system, it is hoped to reduce illegal disposal problem.

With the increasing amount of waste dumped by Malaysians every day, it is hoped that with the implementation of this new system, solid waste management in Malaysia will be under control. This is to ensure a clean and green life for all citizens.
